Hey guys I know this has been asked before but i can't find any answers. Do you have to replace the turn signal cam or the little springs in the column to get the turn signals to stop blinking when you bring the steering wheel back around.

Pics of the inside of the column would be appreciated.

most likely the spring...esp if it is only one direction not working. (Normally left) The cam its self may be worn also though.

1. Need to pull the steering wheel.

2. Broken spring should then be obvious.

it is still most likely the springs, but if they are intact, then inspect the cam real close, look for a cut in the lobe.

This is all asuming your column is in decent shape and doesn't have too much slop in it. I have found that if you get much more than 1 1/2 inches of forward and back slop (in a non tilt) then the signals won't cancel all the time.

and I have a brand new GM set of them for $3.00 shipped, if you find that they are what you need... Randy

I broke a couple of springs by holding the blinker lever down while turning the steering wheel in the direction that turns the blinker off. Now I try to remember just to let the blinker turn off, and then I turn it back on once the cam is past the spring. It's kind of a pain, but it beats pulling the steering wheel to replace the spring. I noticed that in my Toyota that the blinker will not turn off until you turn the steering wheel in the same direction as the turn signal that's activated and it clicks once, then when you turn the other direction, the turn signal will turn off. So if you turn your left blinker on and spin the steering wheel to the right, the blinker won't turn off until you turn the steering wheel back in the left direction and then back in the right direction. It's a pretty cool design. With our trucks, it's a pain when you put your left blinker on, merge into a left turn lane, straighten out, and the blinker turns off. You have to turn it back on.

You can buy the springs in the "Help" section at most parts stores.

maybe the flasher unit ? i would check that first before going into the steering colmn

the flasher controls the electricity, not the lever.
