Need cab mount help? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I had a strange thought about mounting my cab directly to the frame using a small piece or rubber. It is just setting on a bare frame and I like the look. I figure I will need to do the same with the core support and bed but I like the slightly channeled look. I am also thinking of putting a Cadillac 472 in her, but I want to mount it not on the stands but to the cross member like a car. I haven’t got any time to measure and check this out yet but I figured someone here might be able to help. Also can someone tell me what the bolt sizes are that hold the cab to frame? Over the last few years I have lost the original mounting hardware.

The pics are of my 67 with an 87 cross member and suspension and a custom rear window opening. I know it has been done before but I’m proud of it.

It might end up being a pretty rough ride. I'm thinking the cab mounts absorb a lot of road vibration and also allow the truck to flex when driving over uneven ground. You'll have to get creative with your bed because there aren't any mounts between the bed and the frame (stock). The bed will sit too high.

I think you will delevop stress cracks if it is mounted too rigidly, also good way to break glass. The chassis flexes alot more than you think. I would keep the rubber mounts.I would also have alot harder ride as mentioned.

I agree with the others. You'd have a much harsher ride and I believe the bed only sits on thin rubber pads between the frame mounts, so you'd have to do some major modifications to get the bed to align properly. If it's a slightly lower look you want, how about some drop spindles and lower rear springs? ECE has kits at reasonable prices. I know longhorn man has put a caddy in his truck, you may want to PM him and ask him how he set up his and if he had any problems with the install. I love the back window, any pics closer up?

I am going to try just using a small aluminum spacer like on drag cars or a thin piece of rubber for mounting my body to the frame. We'll see how it works
