help with ball joints
i am in the process on lowering my 78 c10 and i am trying to get the front lower ball joint loose and i can't...
i have everything else loose and have been hitting the crap out of the side of the spindle by the ball joint for at least 30 minutes and still nothing... i also tried one of the traditional fork ball joint seperators and still nothing... does anyone have any other ideas?? could i take a torch to the spindle for a couple of minutes and maybe that help loosen it??? thanks for the help chris |

take off the control arm and have it pressed out at your local auto parts store. Have them press in the new one while they're at it

well i got it...whoever said you don't have to take the tie rod end loose was wrong... i took the tie rod loos and swung the spindle all the way to the bad then took the pickle fork and put it in from the front and beat it(like m jackson) and finally it popped loose... i can't believe the bfh didn't work though...

Besides the machine shop or using an expanding press bolt--I have found that if you wedge the fork in tight, reverse the castilated nut and use a punch to smach the ball joint stud. I agree remove the tie rod end first. I use never-seize on the new studs to allow easier removal.
