That's exactly what I am, thinking too. I was impressed to see that black 79 bid up to 18k. I was surprised that it didn't reach the reserve. It shows that there are people willing to pay high dollars for these trucks if they are nice. The 79 truly is a "frame off" restored truck and it shows. This truck is a very nice truck but it's obvious they are stretching the "frame off" term quit a bit.

Frank, you are correct that the truck could NOT be built for 10k. At least not to the quality that you see. Trust me when I tell you guys that you would have that much in the cost of materials alone.

BTW- Thank you guys for complimenting my truck.....

i'm glad to see these trucks going for good money . if a guy were to invest a few $$$ and pick up 3 or 4 swb trucks and keep them in good shape, he could make a few bucks in a couple of years. right now i can pick up clean swb trucks around here for $1500-$3000. i caught a guy about to go to prison for 8 years and bought my 84 from his wife last year. he just rebuilt the 454 in it. it has a/c, 15 billet specialties wheels and a cowl induction hood. she even gave me a $450 receipt for the new dual exh/flowmasters. she sold me the truck for $1500 .

you can tell Ken's truck is a 20-25k truck because it is a clean frame off and is kept clean. i would probably go in the 8k range for the blue one.

One issue that really burns me about eBay is EVERYONE'S truck on there is "restored," and "a show truck..." when infact, only a small percentage of those having the designation are truely "show trucks," or worthy of having the term "frame off." A set of chrome valve covers and rims, does not make your ride a "show truck!" Its all in the pics...

ok... *rant* over!

Its not just Ebay or trucks.
Every time I look at a car or truck over 10-15 years old on a lot it is "restored". Sorry dude, but new wheels, tires and a cheap paint job isn't "restored"!
I've always thought there should be some way of coming up with a national standard for "restorations".
Like a grading system:
A = totally restored including off the frame
B = new/rebuilt engine, tranny, new paint, new interior but maybe not off the frame.
C = really nice low mile original with anything not looking new replaced
D = rebuilt engine, tranny, new paint (basically an overhaul of the vehicle)
etc.
There should be some way of recognizing a person that is qualified to make that designation and if you are advertising a vehicle as "restored" you would have to have it inspected to prove it.
Now I sound as high as the guy selling this truck!?!
BTW, I always see things like "rebuilt engine" - if you replaced the cam but the rest of the engine still has 150,000 miles its not rebuilt. IMHO its not rebuilt if everything outside of the main foundation (crank, block, etc) isn't new. Its overhauled!!!
Everything is open to interpretation and is ambiguous. I see primered cars with no ineriors and mismatched wheels at car shows so I guess technically it is a show car???

Also, this guy in insane to think anyone would bid that kind of money or even anywhere near the starting bid of $25,00.00 for that truck. He proberly just thought "hey, what the heck. I will stick this on there and see what happens. There could be a sucker with more money than since out there."
This is the guy that has the $25,000.00 bid on that truck.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...&category=7307

He might not want you to see the truck. Yes, buy all means, let us know what you find out.

For sure you can not go by this truck that this guy wants $54,000.00 for it. Also looks like his brother (who's owns the truck) put a fake bid for $25,000.00. It would be nice if our trucks was worth anywhere close to that but not today. You can get a super nice '57 Chevy Convertable for that and less. I am talking about show room nice. MO I just have a strong feeling that guy will not get any more bids. If he does, I might stick my truck, Suburban and Model A on there for sure.

I know. I sold a really nice '57 Nomad about 16 years ago for $2,500.00 and now they are out of sight. I do not know if the $2,500.00 could make the down payment today.

I don't really follow the tri-5's but I do know that a restored 57 convertible is well over 50k. I have seen them bring over 100k recently.....

I can remember back in I think '69 a friend of mine had a 1957 Chevy Red Bel-air Convertiable and it had the wonderbar radio and just as nice as could be and he was asking $1,200.00 for it and thought he would never sell it. Nobody at the time wanted a '57 Convertiable, everone wanted the two door hard tops. He had to come down in price and he finally sold it after about a month. Who would have guessed? I better quit talking. I am giving away my age. (Well I guess now you know I am not 21)
