Fuel tank opinions need - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm moving my fuel tank under the bed in my 70 SWB and looking for some opinions on the different choices of tanks. I would like to have a custom aluminum tank made but that's not in my budget. I've considered a fuel cell from Jegs or Summit but would require more fabication in the fuel filler hose since I want to put the filler behind the marker light. I'm leaning toward a new suburban tank. What are your opinions on the poly tank verses the steel tank.

I have the blazer/burb tank, and Im running the filler in the wheel well with some marine hose, should be ok.

If you are putting it behind the marker a Blazer tank may be better than a Suburban. If I remeber right the Blazer exits a little further back. I am not positive if that's correct, it's been a while since I have seen a Suburban tank.

I am right in the middle of my conversion on my 72 SWB. Not fun for sure, I chose to cut my bed sill down 2 inches (good info on this in the FAQs) and will be popping the fuel filler up behind the wheelwell in the bed using a design I also saw on the board. My blazer tank was an LMC and it has a short goose neck, however I have seen others out there with a longer goose neck that appears would go up and over the frame rail a bit easier. So there is more than one style of Blazer tank out there, at least at the gooseneck. I was wondering how everyone out there is venting their Blazer tanks? Fuel fill is covered but what about the vent tube???

I am in a72 project and am using 79 pontiac bonniville tank/ with fill on side, also using 92 model sportside bed, using tank straps out of same car. fits on rear frame perfect and still will be able to use reciever hitch.
