sbc to bbc

I know this has probably been beat to death but I have to know. I am putting a 72 bbc in my 82 that had a sbc. What motor mounts can I use. It has a 3 in body lift if that helps. It is time to buy them and I don't want to get the wrong thing. Also, will tall valve covers be ok to use? What type of headers will work? It is a 4x4. Thanks for the help.

You can use the SB motor mounts. I did the same switch in my 82 and used my SB mounts w/ no problem. Headers are another issue. If you don't mind the collector being under the frame rail, you can use Headman long tube. I even have a set I'll sell. If you want the collector to be up and out of sight, it's more difficult. Sanderson, I think that's the name, has short headers that will work nicely. But you will probably have to re-locate your oil filter. I installed an oil filter relocation kit and mounted the oil filter under the power steering pump. Easy access to the filter and the oil tubes are routed behind the motor mounts and away from the headers.

Tall valve covers shouldn't be an issue. I'm using the stock hood w/ a 2" air cleaner on top of a Holly Street Dominator. Still have about 1" clearence.

I just did the sb to bb swap on my 73, so maybe I can help too.

Engine mounts are the same, you can re-use your sb ones. I just purchased Sanderson 3/4 length headers, and they fit just fine. Not sure why one would have to relocate the oil filter, I know I didn't have to on mine. Also, tall valve covers will be close with your PB bootser, but since you have a 3" body lift, you shouldn't have to worry.

Hope this helps.

I also did the same thing, it was just drop it in and go. You can use the SBC motor mounts and towers. You can use tall valve covers and still clear the brake booster.
