Throttle linkage problem, rod to cable?

I have just fitted a 502 to my '68. I bolted it to the straight six mounts and it is very tight at the bulkhead, but I like that as I drag race the truck. It is too close to the original throttle linkage as the head would melt the plastic bracket. What i want to do is fit a a cable pedal and linkage off a '71/72 truck. Is this possible? Fabrication is not a problem for me. Would I be better with an aftermarket street rod cable pedal?
Does anyone have a complete cable pedal for sale?
Thanks,
Neil.
