Post Aftermarket Tach in Stock Hole???

want to install a higher RPM tach in dash as i want to be able to get reading above 5K. i know a '70-'81 camaro tach will go right in, but was wanting to know if there was an aftermarket one that could be installed behind the lens WITHOUT CUTTING A HOLE in the lens, possibly with a shift light. anybody????? pics?????

It can be done, but you'll still have to cut a hole in the metal behinde the lens. Plus, now you'll be looking through 2 layers of scratched plastic.

HvyChvy,

Your picture puzzled me. Why is your gearshift indicator showing Park on the right side? What am I missing?

LMN8R---will type it up and email to you
1970 CST Short Wide--- http://www.picturetrail.com when you get the properties for the picture, it will have a .ptp on it. erase that and put .jpg and you can post.
Texnician01---will email you too
Repo1--- not sure about the other guys but i used a 3 3/4" which was a little too small, 4" would have been better
mark25--- i completly did away with the metal case

We have used both the Camaro and Sun Super II tachs. Any 3 3/4" tach will fit.

The Camaro tach fits nicely into the dash metal housing. Have to cut two holes, the front metal cover (round) and the rear metal cover (to match the Camaro tach). The trick is to get the tach centered in these two metal covers. The stock plactic, printed circuit can be used without any modifications. To wire the Camaro tach, (-) black wire to a ground (screw) location on the rear metal cover and printed circuit, (+) red wire to ign normally-on or to the fuse panel - unfused (use a 10amp inline fuse), green wire to coil or HEI - tach. The Camaro tach has no provision for a light.

The Sun tach requires, considerable more installation.
