Mystery Squeek
My truck developed a new squeek this weekend
My new sqeek happens when I hit the gas while driving. If I put the clutch in and hit the gas it does not squeek. Its squeeks faster as I go faster. Does this mean it is in the drive train? It sounds like its coming from the front right, I have looked around over and under the truck looking for the source but so far no luck. Any ideas? I hope its not my tranny or rear....

Either the clutch throw out bearing or harmonic balancer outer ring slipping back off center and rubbing timming cover (pushing clutch in pushes crank forward).

cdowns: I thought of that too, so I went under and checked all the shocks and they look ok. Also it does not squeek when I am moving at 30mph and the truck in neutral.
jhow66 and tnblazerk5: how would I check the u-joints, throwout bearing, and ballancer to rule them out? Also I forgot to mention, this squeek comes and goes. I drove 3/4 of the way to work today with no noise at all, then it started to squeek again for a few minutes, then went away again. thanks guys!

Yeah, might as well buy a u-joint, you're gonna need it pretty quick.

Well, made it in to work again today (I drive about 20 miles each way).
Turned off the radio to listen and the squeaking is quieter, but it is now accompanied by some knocking and vibration. It starts when I start from a stand still in 1st, then goes away. I shift into 2nd and it comes back then goes away, then 3rd seems fine. If Im lighter on the gas pedal it doesnt seem to happen as much. Could I hurt something else by continuing to drive it? I wont really have a chance to work on anything till this weekend.... I could probably open up my trusty manual and learn how to replace a u-joint.
