transfer case ?
Ok I have a 98 z71 with a newly rebuilt transfer case. I never even put it in 4 wheel drive until today and just tried it today to see if it would go into it. It shifts into 4 wheel by a lever on the floor(not buttons). However when I go to 4 lo everything is great, but I cant go back to 2 or 4hi until I turn engine off. It grinds real bad when I try to shift back when in neutral and stopped with ebrake on. Wont shift out of 4lo in park, and only way to shift out of 4lo without it grinding is to cut engine off and place into neutral first. What would cause this?

rebuilding tranny soon anything I can do about this?

You should be able to shift on the go in and out of 4 hi. An auto tranny must be either in drive or park to shift the transfer. I always shift in and out of the hi 4 gears rolling or backing up. sometimes you have to back up to get them out. hope this helps

goes from 2hi-4hi great, put in neutral and it goes into 4lo great, but wont come out of 4lo unless engine is off. It grinds really bad when engine running.
