700r4 in a 4wd question??
Hi. This has probably been covered several times, but I could not find it. When converting a factory T350 4wd to a 700r4, I've read the output shaft of the 700r4 must be changed out to an Advanced Adaptors 27 spline shaft. If you find a 700r4 from a 4wd does the output shaft still have to be changed?? If so, what's different between the AA shaft and the 700r4 4wd output shaft? Is the swap REALLY worth all the time & money? Greg

no expert but the 700r4 froma a 4x will fit in place of you t350 the catch is you need an adaptor for spacing out the 700 off the transfere case I know because my boy has one he had made. I believe the 700r4 needs the shorter shaft output. and the 700 is not a very strong transmission and the drive shaft may need altering. lets hear it from the expert they are out there Ed ke6bnl

4wd or 2wd the output shaft on the 700r4 is still 32 spline. You need to either change the transfer case to accept the 700r4 by either
changing the output on the transfer case to a 32 spline input... or change the output on the 700r4 to a 27 spline.. or change the coupler between the tranny and tranfser case to 27spline one side and 32 spline the other Most of these suggestions are based on a NP205 that was coupled to 350 automatic. There are a few different ways to do it as I listed...someone here made a nifty adapter spacer also. Lots of stuff on the web about this swap...I'll see if I can attach some links later. I got 3 trees and lots of branches that came down in the yard yesterday after a little nasty rain and wind storm here last night. They came down missing anything important.

Thanks Rod, I never saw anywhere how many splines are on the 700r4. Makes sense now. Greg
