Old skool or Mad Max? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So I was going to go with an old school look but after seeing the hurricane destruction in LA, I think I might go Mad Max style. Set up for driving through water and holding extra fuel, water and supplies, winches front and back, big tires.
In all reality my family would leave the area (I'm LEO so I get to stay), but now it has me thinking of going a new direction with the truck.
Anyone else living in a flood area (St Petersburg, FL) thinking the same?

Gee, you get floods there?

I hated working construction in Tampa/St. Pete, the ground is ALWAYS wet. I think a mad max themed truck would be kinda cool!

well i kinda think the mad max is the way to go with sumthing thats going to have the crap beat out of it and used as a hurican or flood only truck
now with that note sumthing built like that cant be driven alot with out the law getting involed(yes i know your a cop) i think i saw where there was sum guys with mad max cars that got into a bunch of trouble with there cars taking them to a car show (driving them on the street ) and the cars got conviscated<sp? and the drivers got arested and had to go to court. this is sumthing you need to look into before you get started

like here we cant have anthing over the windsheild like a metal screen to keep debre<sp? off it or from sumthing hitting it and busting it ( dont ask me how i know that lol) bumpers have to be in the correct place and within the height and low measerments<sp? . tires are not supost to stick out if the fender wells ,all extra lights on the truck must be covered when on the street and the headlights cant be covered with anything even billit grills cant cover them and so on and so forth lol

just sum toughts you need to look into before you waste a bunch of money on sumthing you cant use

man i cant spell today at all lol sorry

Howdy;
We're from the same neck of the woods.
I'd think it depended on what you're starting with. Wouldn't go MadMax/ratrod ( if you remember the movie "Sorcerer",1970's [I think!] with Roy Schieder, that has come to epitomize for me the cobbled together truck)if what you have is already better than that, but winches, aux. fuel tanks, tall tires on stock spindles and A Arms can still look old skool enough to please any but the true restoration guys. I went with a straight rebuild of the stock front end on my '67, and though not low and smooth, the look appeals to me as this is a truck that can work if I need it to, and doesn't have to worry about water under bass boat depth (well, at least not immediately).

Yeah for some resaon my front sags, if I could get it back to a level height I could throw some meats under there.

Howdy:
Just my .02, but I think a Real MadMax look probably works better on the SWB. That longbed may need new front springs, though my 67 was clearly "standing proud" after the near complete front end rebuild using the springs it came with, but not as high as that white SWB you have pictured.

Stay old school. If anything over a cat. 3 comes here I'm gone. You can always bring it over here and park it next to mine. It will never flood east of Tampa up on the ridge.
