I would like to replace the ugly chrome trim around the windshield in the seal of my 76 C10. Can anyone tell me if it is as easy as pulling off the old one and pressing in a new one? Is glue and/or and special tool required?

Any info or suggestions are really appreciated.

Thats about all there is to it, but if you take the trim to a glass shop they will do it for about $30 or so.

They make a tool to install it. . . Not sure if you can still get the 'chrome' insert anymore. . .

I have never done it myself, but I "hear" that it's not too hard with the tool that 79Silv4x4 mentioned. You can buy the insert in chrome or black. I had mine replaced on my 77 last year..

I had a new chrome insert installed when I had my windshield replaced a couple of years ago. The windshield shop carries the rubber chrome insert in rolls. The dealership also had it for a bit more. It was the last item that was installed. So, you should be able to install it yourself. (They did use a special tool, but you should be able to use a screwdriver or something similar as long as you don't mar the insert. Use some lubricant to help it slide into the channel. Good luck.

i did it and it was more annoying than anything...some silicone lubricant and a screw driver are all i used...just took some time to get it in without another piece popping out

How does it look? I plan on doing the same to mine. But think I will let the glass co. do the work as I will be getting a new windshild also. PO ran the wipers with no rubber.
