I bout two parts for my 69 SWB Step todfay at Kragen. One was a temperature sending unit; the other was a stop light switch. I printed the part numbers off the website and took it with me, thinking it might save me some time at the counter.

Good thing!!!

The stop switch that cost 3.99 on the web was like 8.99 at the store and the temperature sending unit that was 7.99 on the web was like 12.99.

The store manager adjusted the price to match the website, saving me 10.00.

Also, they initially told me they did not have the parts, but when I showed them the website said they were in-stock at their store, they found them.

I had to go back to Kragen today amd get a temp sending unit for an 87 since I have the newer 350 in my truck, The temp sending unit cost 10.99 on the web, but 23.99 at the store. The manager matched the website price. It just seems crazy to me that there is that much difference in price.

Everybody wants the big dollars!!! I usually call for the best price around town, then when I go to the counter without telling them I called first they usually give me a higher price, you just got to keep a close eye on em or they'll grab ya for more bucks!!!!! there all crooks!!! and not just in that business.

AutoZone and O-reilley will do the same thing. I got to where I just take an online parts list in there to make sure I don't squeak from my hiney when I finally walk out of there, if you know what I mean.

Oddly, you can buy the parts on-line from either parts america (kragen/checker) or autozone and then pick them up at your local store. So the price on-line is a nationally advertised price? Makes since that locally they would match without so much as a wimper.

Fortunately I don't have that problem because the local napa is three minutes down the road from me and I really don't care if they charge more than autozone or whatever because at least I never have to deal with people who ask me for make, model, year, engine size, carb, tranny, and 2 or 4wd, when I ask them for a 3/8 inline fuel filter.

I've bought from autozone and advanced but usually go to an independent store I've went to for the last 25 years. You would think that someone that worked in an "auto parts store" would have a "basic" knowledge of what a car is and where most stuff is located...BUT I went to an advanced one time and the "guy" behind the counter couldn't find the chassis part I needed and proceeded to tell me they didn't have it (he was looking in the wrong location). Then I told him to look in the suspension list and would you know it ...there it was and they did have it!

Not sure on how the other online stores work, but I know when you use napaonline they basically cut their store owners off. Most stores are privately owned. The napaonline outlet prices their parts like they were selling direct to you, cutting the store owners out of the profits, then making the store owners deal with the parts handling/core returns. Not saying that the parts should be twice as much like some have posted, but I would expect a small increase so the store itself would make some $$

Even better, i've seen Napa put up sale prices that are lower then they charged the store owner for his inventory.

I have actually gotten parts #'s online to make it easier on the guys down at napa on occasion. I have found, even though I wasn't really paying attention to prices on the web, that I was being charged the same price at the store as advertised on the web.
