radiator leak
Just noticed the radiator is leaking. I plan on getting a new radiator ($200) but in the meantime I was thinking of using Prestone 'stop leak'. Will this stuff screw up my water pump? It says it is safe but I want to make sure.

If it was mine, I wouldnt use it. I never use anything that you pour into any part of an engine or transmission.

If you plan to get a new radiator soon, and you can get to the leaky part, I would use JB Weld or one of the radiator repair kits that comes with a thick 2 part epoxy that you mix by kneading the two parts together.

I dropped my drill once, and stabbed a hole into one of the rows on my 4 core. Being as it was basically a new rad, I went ahead and fixed it. Still no problems to this day almost 2 years later. I just took my butane soldering torch, got the metal good and hot, then just soldered it shut. Had a bit of a bead sticking out later on that I carefully shaved down with a die grinder, but after I painted it, you'd never see it there unless you were looking for it, and it never leaked once.

Can you use JB Weld? Where is the leak at? If it is where you can put some JB Weld on, then I would do as Slonaker said and put the JB Weld on thill you get the new radiator. Maby after the Weld is done, you might not need a new radiator. JB Weld is great stuff. I had a crack in the fill neck. I sanded, cleaned, the JB Weld over the crack and never has leaked since and that has been over a year ago.

Not sure what you mean?
I used the JB weld to repair the neck of the radiator. It was leaking where the neck come out of the core. |
