One-piece oil pan gasket

Has anyone tried the one-piece silicon rubber oil pan gasket from Fel-Pro? I saw one in Chevy High Performance Jan. '04. And do you need to raise the engine(350) to install the oil pan gasket? Thanks for any info.

lots of folks here have used em with very good luck. in a 2wd truck its a ton easier if you lift the engine out. the pan bolts are near impossible to get out and back in with the engine sitting on the mounts.

a great product!! yes you need to unbolt the engine towers and lift the engine enough to get a short piece of 2X4 under the towers to change the gasket

This is probably a dumb question, but are the towers the spots where the engine sits on the motor mounts? Thanks again.

yup they sure are. just take the one bolt that holds the mount to the towers out and raise the engine

Can you just jack up the engine to raise it or do you have to use a hoist? I am in an apartment complex. Thanks again very much.

I swear by these gaskets! They are amazing! Never had to replace the one in my '70, but in my '66 I was able upgrade to the one piece without lifting the engine.

the safest way is to use an engine crane. living in an apartment complex myself im aware of your dillemma.you could jack the engine up using a block of wood on the pan just be careful that you dont crush or dent the pan and make sure you support it will dont need that thing falling and crushing your hands

the one piece gaskets are definately better than the 4 part, or 2 part with a bottle of sillicone gaskets. dab some sillicone on the gasket to hold it in place.

they work great except fpr the fact that you cant use them on an aluminum oil pan,i tried with mine,and the front seal is too thick to let it suck down tight,i ended up braking the front of my pan and had to reweld it at work

can they be re-used. i had one (or i should say have) on my SBC never ran it but it (the pan) was tightened down then i removed the pan. So will i be alright?

The the new gaskets are a huge improvement over the old design. I think your best bet would be to rent or borrow a hoist to make the swap. The block and jack on the bottom of the pan works okay for engine mounts and header installs but it's going to be tricky for a pan gasket change.

Other than one piece oil pan gaskets, I'm not sure which type gasket you're refering to. I only have the part # for the PermaDryPlus oil pan set:

OS 34509 T Oil Pan Set
GM Prod. V8
...265,283,302,327,350,400 Eng., 1957-74

Gasket Set Includes:
1- 34509 T Oil Pan Gasket
4- 95560 Oil Pan SnapUps
14- 95685 Oil Pan Bolts
14- 95686 Star Washers
4- 95687 Oil Pan Bolts
4- 95688 Start Washers

PermaDryPlus gaskets all come with instructions that say to NOT use any sealant which would ruin the gasket's sealing abilities. (I like that part )

I'm not sure if Felpro offers just a PermaDryPlus oil pan gasket without bolts at a lower cost.

That's the gasket they talked about in the magazine, 0S 34509T.
