Exhaust is pricey!
Just got a quote on what dual exhaust that comes straight out the back on my truck would cost, and all I gotta say is ouch. Local shop said 500 minuimum, and my dad phoned two other shops in the city and they both said atleast 400. And all those prices are in Canadian. What kind of prices did you guys have to pay?

Is that with or without mufflers? That's pretty dang pricey for just straight pipes. Even in Canadian...

Hey what city? I saw an ad a while back for dual exhaust for $300 in Saskatoon in an industrial area just off Central Ave in Sutherland. Of course, if you don't live near Saskatoon this won't help one bit..

Watch out ordering those exhaust kits from LMC -- They fit, but you gotta do some cutting and such to make it work, also need to watch shipping costs, they can be pretty excessive on oversized items like that.
That said, I built myself a pretty nice exhaust setup on my 74 for less than 150 bucks. I just got myself a set of axle pipes, and modified my Y-pipe, then welded two straight sections of pipe in, with a set of 30 dollar turbo mufflers from crappy tire. Worked really well, and actually sounded pretty beefy too!

If you can bend 1/2" conduit into the shape you need and then have the exhaust shop moch it up for you. then you just cut and weld it up. I did this to my truck using $85 set of flowmasters 40 series 3 chamber mufflers, 2 1/2" pipe for about $150. Took about two hours with a friend help to cut and weld up but looked professional and it is not clamped together I forgot to add in the new hangers so all in all about $180. pretty cheap and it looks great!!! Also it exits in front of the rear axle and is pretty dagone loud, but I like it Randy

HeavyD - I live about 2 hours away from Saskatoon, and with gas prices the trip would not be worth it. $300 sure sounds nice right now tho.
AK|Bandit - My dad did the talking, so I'm not sure if mufflers were included. I think I'll just take it to the city and pay the price tag. As long as it sounds good it'll be worth it

That's why I make my own now. Decent mig welder pays for itself after one exhaust or turbing piping job.
Gonna start making up inexpensive x and h pipes if anybody needs any! |

Had true dual exhaust with the shop providing the mufflers ( turbo's) 2 1/4" aluminized pipe exiting at a 45 degree behind the rear tires for $180. Took him about two hours or so. Really sounds pretty good for no more than it cost. Very satisfied and best of all it replaced my rusted single exhaust. Welded system, no clamps.

My dads droppin mine off tommorow morning to get done while im at school(im only 15). I just put on a set of dynomax headers so im gettin 2 1/2 pipes with x pipe and 2 40series flowmasters coming out behind the rear tires with some stainless angle tips turned 90degrees so they are flush with the body line. I thought this would look cool, thats costin me 280 and that price is including the flowmasters which are about 120 for 2. Pretty good price I thought, should sound perdy cool too.

One thing to consider, if you guys aren't getting mandrel bent (chances are there's no shops near you that have a mandrel bender) then the crush bends are going to cost you in flow. Those crush bends can reduce pipe diameter by about 1/2" depending on the angle they bend it to.
Going to cost me about $160 to do mine with stainless pipe and stainless magnaflows turned down in front of the axle. |

I just paid out the wazoo for mine. I got Headman Elite headers, stainless Flowmaster 40's & 3" stainless pipe 45'd out in front of the back tires. It sounds great & runs like a raped ape, but it did run me almost $750 for everything.

I'm planning to add headers to my truck soon. A local shop quoted me $60 to cut the existing exhaust back and mate it to the collectors. Seems rough, but not having a welder or anything I could flare 2 1/2" pipe with, I think I'm stuck with them.

Sorry, I might be slow, but why do you need to flare 2.5" piping? To mate it up to the reducers?

sometimes i take my truck in to there r&r dept and they used my headers one year to make there collector series they did the whole exhaust system headers collector back over the rear end then i went back to the 40 series and pipes to the front of the rear tires its quite until you put your foot into it then its loud as hell
