found much bad juju under bed, need help!
Forgive the multiple posts, but I really wanted to make sure this got out. I just decided to switch my lowered springs for a buddie's stock ones. (His rear's were almost brand new! ) We ended up needing to remove my bed for access and found a plethera of bad juju!
1. All four coil spring mounting plates(stud brackets) are almost useless 2. three spring mounting bolts snapped 3. left shock bolts(upper and lower) trashed. 4. both axle ubolts too small, left one loose from humungous hole drilled in the axle plate 5. bushings gone on whatever-arm connected from frame to axle(I can't think right now) 6. no bed bolts(bed held down with four undersized generic bolts 7. all four front bed bolt mounting plates need replacing 8. both coil spring mounting plates(ones riveted to frame) are rusted away 9. most cross-members are too rusted to deal with. 9. and the grandaddy...the frame is rusted away on both sides where the spring mounting plates are! Even the support plates are useless. Some previous owner had a broken leaf spring bolted to the pass. side just to hold the coil spring in place! O.K...now to business. Does anyone sell any of these things; or have some lying around that aren't being used? Any info would be greatly appreciated. In His service, Wes Pamplin

almost every single thing you named is available at www.gmcpauls.com. the bar with the rubber bushings is the track bar and a brand new bar with bushings installed is only 35 bucks. the springs cups are 8 bucks a piece i believe.

Check the rest of the frame. If the PO or before used the truck to tow a boat and backed it into salt water frequently....there may be more corrosion. You might want to consider a new frame...just a thought. Frames are easy to come by on this board. I have one for free but it is geographically undesireable...LOL!

stllookin, thanks for the advice, but the frame is pretty sound otherwise. The truck was a Northern truck that was displaced down South. I know that the guy before the guy I bought it from bought it from a dealership in Virginia.(Didga catch all that? ) So the rust underneath is extensive on the body and wherever salt could get caught up(like the spring mounts apparently... ) The truck looks good from outside, just don't crawl underneath.
Never fear though, I have a possible 1969 donor stepside in the works.

Cool! I loaned my truck to "friend" and he used it to launch and recover his sailboat from salt water several times. When I crawled under the truck a year later...I could see how far he backed it into the water from the corrosion line on the frame and underside of the box! I sold the truck becuase I knew what was coming!!!!!
