Rear window options?-

Bet this one has come up before.

I've got a practically brand new slider window in my truck that I want to get rid of (for security reasons). I'm just curious what options are out there. I'd love to do something like a rear 'burb window (automatic, rolls down) since I'm going to be ditching my gas tank soon, but I dunno if anyone has ever done anything like this or not.

Curious to hear about (or see) some of the cool things people have done with rear windows in our trucks?

I asked that same question a few months back. Seems no one has seen it done. I had to re- do the innerds of a full size blazer a few years back and I'm sure with the gas tank out those parts would be adaptable. Making the channel for the window would be a challenge, I think you'd need a custom piece of glass ( with the bottom part extending further down, or use a metal frame surrounding a stock window? . I got my eyes open for an old cab to Guinea Pig some ideas on, but it'd sure be nice to learn from someonelses mistakes.

I am preparing to do this with my '61. I bought a Honda Del-Sol rear regulator on eBay for it. I expect the most difficult part to be the installation of the channels. The glass will be custom cut and slightly larger than the orig (small back window).

I have been wanting to do the same thing to the '71. When I was getting all the stuff together to do it though, it looked to me like it would be easiest to either extend the back of the cab(due to the indentations) to make room for the window tracks and mechanism, or go to the later model(91 and up) style back window that doesn't use a rubber gasket. Hadn't really gotten any farther than that once I knew I'd have to do some serious re-engineering. Once the Blazer is done and driveable, though, ITS ON! Keep us up to date on where you go with it, and I'll do the same once I get started on mine. Jeff.

Look at the tailgates from early 90's furd broncos... they have a electric tailgate windows in them. Maybe you could modify it to work ?

Here's a thought, just cause y'all are discussing this.
This came to me:
Seems there are aftermarket Power Window set-ups for our 67-72's now!
The windows for the doors are not curved, so think along the same lines as the rear window not being a curved glass.
The amount of travel up & down could be rather similar in geometry.
If you could fabricate the bottom of the rear window glass with the arms from the doors mechanisms, I would guess it would only be the bracketry to support the power motor, and figure the locations left and right in relations to the power motor unit.
I think this as the aftermarket units that I have seen a very slim so to me it would be a bonus for us using these motors for the abilty to conserve space.
Don't forget about the lower window seal you'll need for rainy days and weather issues. Think of a Suburban rear window's seal and design, for example.

A company called Fantasy Coachworks used to carry those conversions. I remember seeing the ads in Mini-Truckin' magazine all the time in the late 80's-early 90's.

Apparently it's called a "vertical power sliding window". the '04 Tacoma comes with them in the double cab trucks. I still have yet to find a kit yet. Been looking for a couple hours on and off now.
