tranny swap

Im wanting to swap my saginaw 3 speed out for a th350. I have a 71 chevy long bed with a 350 motor. I need to know what parts I need. Here is what I have come up with so far....
(1)Tranny...th350 with 6 inch tail (should swap out with out any driveshaft issues right?)
(2) auto transmission cross bar (3)transmission mounts (4) a shifter (5) kick down cable (6) transmission cooler (no idea which one, too many options.
(7) torque converter ( not sure which one, stock one would be fine, maybe 2000 stall) (8) and a flywheel (are all flywheels the same, i think there were one and two piece ones, what is the difference)

9)Something to plug the hole in the firewall where the clutch linkage used to pass through.

th350 swap

Hi Scooby
You have a pretty good idea of stuff you need. I am not sure if the driveshaft yoke is the same spline for an automatic tailshaft as it is for a manual so you might have to change the yoke. Don't quote me on that though It's been awhile since I worked on stickshifts.
I'd give some thought on a radiator with a trans cooler built in AKA stock. Then if you wanted to add an auxillary one you could.
Are you going to use a floor shifter or change the column?
The clutch pedal needs to come out but save all the parts for the manual linkage cause someone on the boards is always looking for some.
The clutch and flywheel will need to be changed out for a flexplate. with 168 teeth IIRC. I think you'l be happy with a 2000 stall converter but if you can find one a stock one will work fine. You may have some problems with the starter/flexplate mesh so shimming may be necessary.
Here's a flexplate Pic ---------- Good luck
