My Fleetside was Born a Stepside!
In looking at the glove box door, I see that my fleetside was born a stepside. It shows RPO 1E62 stepside pickup box. What a surprise!
Just for grins, how hard would it be to replace the long bed fleetside box with a stepside box? How hard is it to find a decent stepside box? Talk about an identity crisis Dick |

This should be interesting. I'm new to trucks. I bought it from the original owner (his name and the VIN is on the Warranty Information booklet) with 39,500 miles. He is in a nursing home, so I cannot ask him, and I bought it his auction.
If it means anything, the wheelbase is 131.5" and the VIN starts CCL147F... Where is the VIN stamped on the frame on these trucks? Last edited by My '77; 09-15-2005 at 09:35 PM. |

On my opinion the longbed stepsides are beautiful.
The best thing is that they are rather rare, or when did you seen the last one on e-bay? Further I find that they lend a better overall view to the truck. Michel |

I have not seen a long bed stepside in a long time now. I do not think GM made too many of them. Personally, I do not like the look. But that is just me. I do like the short stepside. But over all I perfer the short fleetside. MO

MIchael,
Thanks for your picture. From that angle the truck does seem to have a more balanced and proportioned look compared to a shortie. Nice truck and good choice of wheels. Dick |

His was an old fleet truck. The company he bought his from had toolboxes that replaced the stepside fenders. Every time they bought a new longbed stepside they put the old toolboxes on it. My dad bought his with two brand new fenders in the bed that were removed from the new trucks. Too bad one was a Ford fender. Slonaker |

I think in the end it's not important if it's an shortbed or longbed, what counts is the fun we have with our trucks. Allthough I have to say that I am a little proud on mine; additional it is an GMC what should be really rar.

LB stepsides were sold for utility services. Here in colorado there were several parks and rec LSB & SSB, almost all of them were crushed. Theres still a few in service and the school district has 3 or 4 LSB in thier fleet if they ever sell them. I'll stick to fleetsides
