I need rear brake help...HELP
I just recently put the brakes back on my rebuilt 12 bolt rear end. Put it back the same way I took it off. I have rolled the frame in and out of the garage a couple of times. When I pused it backwards I could hear the brake adjuster clicking. Well now the frame will not roll at all. I realize the brake adjuster has pushed the brake out which is preventing the wheel/drum from turning. How can I fix this. There is not brake fluid in the lines and I removed the e-brake cables from the rear drums (waiting to buy new ones)

Just pop off the little cover and adjust the star wheel to loosen the brake shoes.

Back the adjuster star down until it bottoms out snuggly.
The adjuster will just slide over the star wheel. Adjust the brakes back up when you are ready to go on the road. The way it is adjusting the brakes now is proper. |

if the brake adjusters tightened up by pushing backwards something is not installed properly they're supposed to adjust with the application of the brakes while in reverse not just by the wheel going in reverse

I had made some adjustment, put everything back on, them rolled the tire backwards and forwards. I did not hear the adjuster clicking. So I think I fixed it. We'll see the next time I try to roll it out of the garage.
Thanks everyone.

the flat bar with the little spring is backwards//spring should b opposite side of adjuster arm / both ends of that arm go on brake shoes and the cutout is to clear the axel//
not pickin on you but an excellent example of why to only do 1brake at a time//or take pictures B-4 removing

I will have to pull the other wheel off and check that. I made sure when I removed them, before rebuilt, that I kept them seperate. Thanks

The shoes are on the proper sides in the pic. The primary shoe is to the rear as it should be.....if that is actually the rear of the truck.

I just went through this hell today, should have waited till a better parts store could get the parts in. But no, had to get it done today Never again will I get the autozone junk. The wheel cylinder wouldnt even fit on drivers side, also it uses a metric for bleeder. Had to file and file on the part that the cyl fits in between. But I had one leaking and brakes where dragging bad. Stops good now though, hope all them parts hold up.
