What is involved in replacing carrier bearing
Now that my truck is back to driveable I'm pretty sure the carrier bearing is needing to be replaced. I know there have been some posts on this but I can't find them. What is involved in replacing a carrier bearing? Just not sure how much of project it is.

IT'S BEEN AWHILE, & I'M SUFFERING FROM THE DREADED C.R.S. DISEASE, (CAN'T REMEMBER SH!T)BUT IT'S SEEMS TO ME IT'S NO BIG DEAL. THE CARRIER BEARING BEARING IS HELD IN PLACE BY TWO NUTS & BOLTS. I USUALLY TAKE THE FRONT HALF OF THE DRIVE SHAFT, CARRIER BEARING AND ALL, TO THE LOCAL DRIVE LINE SHOP & HAVE THEM PRESSED ON. PIECE OF CAKE & USUALLY COSTS $2 OR $3. JOHN

i like to do things only once so if i'm going to take the drive shaft apart and it's got ujoints of unknown age i just take the whole thing to driveshat place and let them replace the ujoints carrier bearing and balance it

i agree with cdowns. its no harder than replacing u joints to replace the carrier bearing. pull the driveshaft out and seperate the shafts by taking out the middle u joint.then you hafta remove the nut pull off the yoke and slide the carrier bearing off. replace the other 2 u joints while your at it. shouldnt be more than 10 bucks each

Inland Empire Driveline makes a Poly Bearing that NeonLarry I think put in. Its alittle more expensive but worth it.

Make sure to mark the driveshaft before you take it apart so you get it bak together the same way otherwise it will be unbalanced
