Ive read many posts here about installing a tilt unit out of a vann. Being an above sized guy, I can use all the interior room as possible. I realize the vann column is a few inches longer, can it be cut down? Or would another piece work better?

You just need to "compress" the intermediate shaft that connects the splined end of the column to the steering box. It is supposed to compress in the event of an accident (so the wheel doesn't totally impale you I think). After it has been shortened the van tilt should fit right in. If you clean the shaft up you will see 2 little holes filled with plastic looking stuff. Drill out the holes or "gently" bash the shaft end on the ground until these little pins break and the shaft can be moved in and out. Anyone got a pic of the shaft to show??

Sure, the van column is longer, but not in any way that would interfere with your body. The added length is under the hood, on the bottom end, not up top where your belly is.

You can actually push the column closer to the dash. I've done this before. How far you go depends on if you want to keep the neutral switch or not. you obviously have to keep shortening the intermediate shaft also.
