Dual Tank To Single Swap?

Howdy all,

Rumor has it that I can pull the dual tanks off of my '82 K30 and install a single 31 gallon tank from a Blazer or Suburban. It seems that the frame rails are the same and I can modify the tank filler and sending unit without much hassle.

Is this true?

I need to replace the right tank on my flatbed and would really like to free up some space on the sides for under bed tool boxes.

Ideas? Theories? Opinions?

Scott

i dont know about the sending unit but having a flat bed you have many options once you find tank that fits could you maybe go to lmc or chevyduty and get the maesurments of the burb tank and then crowl under and measure you truck???

Sending unit is the same, it just needs a ground just like the previous tanks. The fuel lines and selector would have to be eliminated and new lines ran to the new tank.

Here is my howto on the install:

You get a bed on there yet? Where is your filler?

I wouldnt mind ditching my two carb tanks on my 85 for a FI 30 gallon

As before this i had just been thinking of getting some 87 dual tanks and wireing and selector and lines. Im doing a FI swap one of these days.

Well, it was on there for checking, but there isn't a floor in it. I am going to place the filler somewhere out of the way.

If you plan on going to EFI, don't buy tanks. The ones you have will work. You just need the sending unit from a EFI truck to drop in there. If you plan for TPI or MPI, you just need a AC 241 pump for increased pressure. I am doing this to my 78 Jimmy and will do a write-up when I am done. I am currently gathering parts right now.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, guys!

I've got a friend who will give me his tank, but I wanted to make sure it would work.

The pain will be lifting the bed, but I'm sure it will be worth it.
