Need help adjusting my hood

How do you adjust the left to right on our hoods? I've read the FAQ threads and only mentions up and down..forward and back. Ive got those body lines looking good, but the passenger side of the hood is nearly touching the fender and the drivers side theres a big gap. The fenders are perfectly lined up with the doors.. I've got brand new repro hinges and new springs. Seems like the only thing to do is bend the hing slightly but doesnt seem like a good idea.. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated and could have some pics up by later tonight.. thanks

eric

Loosen the bolts that hold the hinges to the hood and shift the hood side to side

Only shifts forward and back dont it? I understand you could loosen the one side and shift it diagonally but its straight and just too far over..

Don't bend nothin'!
Try moving your radiator support left or right. That should do it.

Where is the FAQ on the hood adjustment? I can't find it listed in the index thread, I'd like to learn how you properly adjust everything too.

Good one redhead69... it might be more work to train the helpers to learn side to side movement than to just put up with it the way it is! Good luck. Heh.

It's starting to sound like a job for Mr Miyagi - "Move hood side - side, Daniel-san."

Either give it a shove like I did for many years in my shop or slot the hinges.

If its tight when approaching the close position, have the hood bolts loosened (snug) but not sloppy loose. Use pieces of cardboard not only to protect your paint, but also to act as a shim when closing. If the bolts are at the right tension, the hood will self align upon careful closing, yet still hold the position for tightening when opened.

I have never used a set of repop hinges but if what I hear is true it won't matter.Everyone I have seen or heard has used the GM ones. Many times they were the second set of new ones on the truck.Evidently the repops are prone to wearing out quickly.

I've kinda left it alone till I get my grill on (has the latch on it).

Dual quad -- thats a good idea i might try that.. sounds like it will work.

If that doesnt work I might try to slot the hinges like Chip46wis said.. I was kinda thinking it would be nice if they where slotted to begin with.
Am I having this problem because the hinges are repros?.. hmm.. wonder if the genuine GMs are that much better and worth the extra penny.. thoughts?

I used washers as shims to get the right fit side-to-side. I probably messed the alignment up some how when I put the fenders back on. But it was easier to shim it then pull the fenders back off and reattach. Everything looks lined up and the hood works great with the shims. Good luck.
