Is It Pordenone or Portafino?

I'm a crusty old MSGT myself, and I am wracking my brain trying to remember the name of that town outside of Aviano. We used to R.O.N. there alot back when I was a flyboy. Now I just fly a desk (SDI) and dream of days gone by! There USED to be ALOT of American Muscle in Europe. Alot of those vehicles have changed hands a hundred times because of PCSs! Good luck over there and stay safe! Sgt T

Well so far no luck. I called the office of registration and told them about the papers.
First thing they asked was what year it was. Well mine is 71, yours is 72.
Then there is the difference of C10 for yours, and mine is a C20.
But I will go by the office and hand over the factory specs with the Italian papers, and hopefully
there will be a helpfull person...

Cya,
Edmond

IIRC, Pordenone is the small city several kilometers east of Aviano AB. Portafino is near the base itself. Pretty view of the Dolomiti from Aviano's flightline.

Wow, Both?

Sounds like the voice of experience. Wine, and spaghetti poisoning have a tendency to dull brain function in my case. Thanks for refreshing the tired old memory there Poet. Take care, Mike

Portafino? No such place. Pordenone is about 50-60K people and is the province capital. Other towns with P are Porcia and Polcenigo, the latter being in the hills and very old, Roman water outpost among other things.

crustysarge, what did they say about the mile speedo at the inspection?
Or do you have some kind of kilo speedo in the truck?
Really nice truck BTW.

Ah, the infamous and elusive KmH speedo! I wish I had one. They did not care about it being in miles only.

Oh, really. In Sweden the inspectors are really picky, it wouldn't pass inspection with a mile speedo.

Come to think of it, I think PortOfino is on the Italian Riviera. Just a different side of Italy, that's all.

At least I was half right. Or is that half wrong?

Pordenone It Is

I just found a postcard that I sent my kids from there. I know that Portafino(sp) is ALSO somewhere in Italy as well, or somewhere on the coast of southern Europe. Crusty: I'm curious whether the locals like your truck?
Poet: I am fairly familiar with Helena, which is probably near you up there somewhere in the Big Sky. Take care, Mike

Hotrod, the PortOfino link above takes you right to a map showing where Portofino is.

Still no PortAfino.

I went diving a few years ago in Portofino, VERY rizty place and big cash there. Locals love the truck but like most Italians the first thing out of their mouth is " how much gas does it consume".

You Are CORRECT SIR!

Poet: Yeah it's PortOfino, that's why I put (sp) beside it, because I knew I was close except for the spelling. Sarge: Italians are always worried about GAS. Do they still have Q8 gas stations there? I remember during WW-DS, we thought that was pretty cool, since we were liberating them. Take care, Mike

Todd, in my last post I wrote Portofino with a capital O because that's how the link looked. I wasn't mocking your spelling. At the time I was just thinking to match how the link looked. I should have realized I might give another meaning. Sorry.

And the "Still no Portafino" comment was meant for me. Hence the embarrassment smilie next to it on my post since I thought it was near Aviano. Didn't mean to refer to you in any way. You were just asking originally.

I couldn't care less about spelling on the board. I make spelling moosesteaks all the time...

Computers are SO 1 Dimensional

Poet: I knew what you meant, I was agreeing with you. I've found that happens alot with computer conversation. I wasn't trying to be a smart a$$. In a real face to face conversation, you can pickup on peoples emotions and intonations and expressions, but with computers, it's hard. It all comes down to interpretation. I was basically trying to tell you that, after you guys clued me in, I realized that's how it really IS spelled. I knew the O was for emphasis. I guess I didn't convey that too well, I apologize. You sound like a pretty worldly guy, I enjoy reading your material. Take care, Mike
