Thoughts on the removal of inner fenders with 20's

My 20's rub a little on the inner fender. I was thinking about removing them. Can I get some pros and cons on doing this. I don't drive my truck daily and maybe not even weekly.

Pros would be it is the easiest fix. Cons would be a dirty engine compartment if you were driving in the rain and not having inner fenders kind of makes your engine compartment look unfinished, which isn't a big deal unless you go to shows. It certainly wouldn't be a problem if you aren't driving it daliy.

I suppose there's a chance your front wheels could throw the occasional rock up against the bottom of your hood and dent it.

Where does it rub at? Would it be possible to cut out the section where it is rubbing, and possibly do some metal work? Metal work meaning; create a bulge and weld it back in the cut out section?

Option #2 BFH..... but your truck looks way to nice for that...

crap would be forced back into the impossible to clean recesses of fender door area promoting rust an rot//as stated an ocassional dent in the hood//maybe a loose rock flyin into the radiator or battery area //but an easy way out to solve your clearance issues

Funny that nobody mentioned this, but one thing that you'd definately chance is overheating. The inner fenders help seal the space that the engine is in, helping the fan to draw air through the radiator. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself, my buddy's Camaro overheated on the way to a cruize-in after removing them. After we put them back on it never overheated again.

I believe slammed67 channeled a pair of inners a couple of inches to address this issue. Check with him.

Randy is right... overheating can be an issue, but not likely...I too have seen it happen though.

There was a pretty good tech article in street trucks or sport truck a month or so ago where a guy built some from a wheel tub kit. they turned out pretty nice and he was tuckin' 22's on a newer truck (blue standard cab chevy) it was the cover truck and they looked real clean, and according the to article, they weren't tooooooo difficult to fab up from the kit.
Just one option, as I am looking for the same answer....

Also without the inner fenders, it will catch alot of air under the hood and engine compartment at speed. Adding lift. Of course you won't be driving at those speeds.

Don't do it. It makes things look unfinished or left out.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

SactoC10 used to drive around without his. I thought it looked pretty cool. We get next to zero rain out here during the summer though.

I'm guessing the pics we're supposed to see are the 3 that have a link to them? When I click on them it asks for a username and passwork, could you post them on here? I guess I've never understood the big rim craze, but maybe some 18's would work better for you? If not, I'm sure you want to keep whats on there now, I'd try the cut and weld boxes on the fenders for more clearance idea.

http://www.etrailerpart.com/mywebs/m...32_2028176.htm

Oh, and I dont have 20's They were 18's with some beefy tires.

*edit yes i relaise that you might not be able to use your stock hinges and that these are on a 88-98 truck. But it gives you an idea.
