Factory cruise on parts truck
I am going to look at a parts truck this weekend. It is complete except for motor. It is a 1970 C20 and from the few pictures I have seen it is a CST. Factory air, three fuel tanks, and the cruise control. He describes the body as being 'near perfect' and the bed had a camper in it until a year ago. I have a good idea of what the reusable pieces are worth, but have not seen many of the factory cruise set ups. For some reason I believe the 1970 cruise is different than 1971 and 1972. Does anyone know? Any idea what a complete factory cruise from a 1970 is worth? I don't want to cheat the guy, but I also don't want to overpay. He is ASKING $1500 for the truck without a motor, but I feel certain that it can be bought for less than $1000. Any help would be appreciated.

Not to hijack, but someone please post a pic of the factory cruise setup. I had a '73 with dealer added cruise, and was under the impression this was the first year of truck to even have dealer added cruise. Very interesting, and I do like to learn something new everyday!

If you buy it, are you gonna keep the cruise or sell it? Interested if complete

CST70rocket, you might want to look at this thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=171842
LUV2XCLR8, I am not sure what I would do with the cruise. I have a 70 GMC that already has cruise. But, it is a pretty rare option, especially in 1970, so it would be cool to have. As a friend of mine likes to say, "it is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it". But without an idea what it is worth, I can't be too agressive about buying the truck. |

OK looks exactly like my dealer installed cruise did. But does this have an actual cruise button on the column? or is it on the dash? Mine was on the dash. I've been doing these trucks for almost 20 years and never seen one. How did I miss this?

Factory installed has the button on the turn stalk. I have one on a 72 and a long time ago I had it on a 68 C-20.

Silver...this is odd, becouse in 72 they were supposed to be under the dash. 679 - 71 was on the turn signal lever. (my one ton longhorn has it)
If you discover that the cruise is messed up or whatever, I would be MORE than happy to buy the short cable off of you...the one from the fenderwell to the speedo head. As for the price...I know I am a tightwad...but a parts truck....for 1500 ?!?!?!?! remove that last zero, then it is a good deal. Onless that body is pristene... I would laugh and walk myself. |

I watched one on ebay a week or 2 ago, and it ended at $195 unrestored. I think that if the auction would have had pics of all of the parts, it would have gone higher. 68-70 cruise setups are different than 71-72s from what I have seen. Contact Rod for more info. He seems to have the most pics & knowledge about factory cruise setups.

I had another question about this, if anyone knows. I see a lot of people recommend using a tilt steering column from a 73-80 era van. I believe some of those vans that had cruise control had the cruise mechanism on the turn signal stalk like the 70 cruise. Does anyone know if that cruise mechanisem would work on the 1970 and earlier cruise?

Mark, I don't think I understand your post. Are you interested in stuff for cruise control?
