16" wheels for '69?

Just wondering: my '69 GMC with drum/drum brakes and 6-lug wheels are running 15" tires now...will late-model 16" wheels fit the old pattern and will their offset give me clearance around the coil suspension? Thanks, Bud

i think the only problem you might run into is the hole in the middle might be too small

from what i hear, there is something different that wont work right with newer style rims....i wanted to get some too, but people said they wouldnt fit

The only real problem is the center hub hole is too small. You would have to waller it out a little bit to work.

Front hubs are too large. You will have to take the wheels to a machine shop to have the hole enlarged. I have a set off of a 03 Suburban. Where are you located?

Your wheels(if aluminum) will rub on the control arm. Trust me been there.

Rob, I'm in Satsuma, AL, just north of Mobile, AL...is it much trouble to enlarge the holes with a some sort of grinder wheel? I also had someone at a local salvage yard say that they thought some aftermarket Isuzu wheels would fit. Thanks, Bud

Bud,

You only have to enlarge the 2 front wheels (all 4 if you wanted to rotate them). You would have to be very careful doing them yourself, I would suggest getting a quote from a machine shop first. Let me know.

I am not able to figure out if you guys are talking aluminum or steel wheels. I had the centers of a set of steel wheels enlarged by a machine shop for 15 bucks a rim, just to let you know.
