Electric choke on Q jet? (More Q's added)

Is there an electric choke for my Quadrajet. If so, where do I get one? I'm going to use my truck as a daily driver in the winter so I need to have a choke. My neighbors would really appreciate it if I didn't have to rev my engine every morning at 5am and it would be nice to be able to start my truck and walk away while it warms up.

We used a Q jet off of an 81 Chevrolet which has an electric choke on it and it works great. We used the HEI 12v feed for the power on his 70 truck. I have not seen an aftermarket setup for the Q jet, but anything is possible.

There are kits available. Theyre fairly pricy at around $70 or so. I went looking for one several months ago and found a few companies that offer them. Most were somewhat hokey setups that bolted an electric choke coil and housing to the manifold and used a rod to connect to the choke lever on the carb. Why not just go with a divorced choke setup? edelbrock sells a kit that bolts onto the hot air boss on their manifolds and it also works on cast iron manifold. I have one on my cast iron chevy manifold ( Later model canadian spec without EGR and with hot air choke boss) and it works great .

depend son what year carb you have, electric wasnt invented til around 76, and there are no real true provisions on our carbs for electric, except aftermarket really, best bet is to go rob an electric choke model off a 76 or so and newer GM car or truck

good luck

Sounds like I have options. Does anyone have pics of these set ups? When it comes to these carbs, I'm clueless.

I am always amazed at how quick pictures are posted on the board. Pictures can be really helpful and the detail is usually great!

Keep it up!

JC Whitney has electric choke conversions for about $30. May not be worth it depending on the condition of your carb. I have a couple of JET stage II 750 Q-jets, one on each of my trucks, and they rock and have electric chokes. Easy swap onto the '72 with its cable, but required mods to work with the mechanical linkage on the '70.

I bought the same part that racedvl has at the swap meet for $5 new. Hygrade is the brand, part # CV300 Choke Thermostat.

Thanks guys. My carb is in great shape. I doesn't even leak! Eventually I'll go with Edlebrock or Demon (it's all about money!) but for now, it's the Quad.

Can I have the Quad when your done with it?
Have you thought of a manual choke? Much cheaper. And you have full control. I can put up a pic if you want.
