My rusty ol' '68
I'm a little embarassed to even post these, after seeing all the nice trucks on the board, but what the hell...
These aren't the best pictures (ie, you can't see all the holes), but you get the idea. ... That's the good side ... A really rotten picture of the not-so-good side ... Hoping to get a real bumper soon. ... Yup, that's the stock engine. ... More of the same. ... Original bedwood, too. ... Like my seat? ... And last, but not least - Driver's side air conditioning option Whew... that's a lot of pictures. Enjoy! Dan |

She looks "do-able" Dan. Start slow, pace it out, figure your budget, take your time and one day you will be posting a whole new series of pics of a brand-spankin' new truck. Hows the weather out in "cow-town" , btw? I got a bro there.

Looks like a good place to start. I like those lwb steps!
Hmm, What is the original color of that truck? It's odd that the cab firewall is red and the cab interior color is grey. I've only seen that in 67's not 68's or later.

Thanks, Southpa.
I was hoping to get all the holes patched up & maybe a half-decent paint job before winter hits, but I'm not sure yet if I'll have the cash for it. I want to wait 'til I can do it properly, rather than just stuffing it full of (more) bondo. Heh. The weather here's actually pretty nice at the moment. Now that I've said that, I wouldn't be surprised if it started snowing tomorrow. It's been one of those years... Dan |

I love it!!! It's silver, and it's a longstep! Great project truck. Welcome to the board.

Option sheet lists 514 Fire Red and 630 Beige Vinyl Trim Since then, it's been pink (!?), blue, and that silver/grey. Most of the silver's already flaked away in the bed & around the back of the cab - It's staying pretty well on the door weatherstripping, tho... There's actually some yellow on the underside of the hood, but I don't see it anywhere else, so I'm guessing it's not the original hood. gmcblu - Glad *someone* likes the silver... I have to admit, it's grown on me since I got the truck. Dan |

dunno why you are embarassed to post the pics, that truck looks pretty damn solid actually, that rust hole is repairable, i would see abotu grinding or at leats sanding with 80 grit paper al around that hole and cover with some paint asap before it turns into major rust.
how are the rockers and outer corner skins ?, any major holes, or just some/few ate out spots long the outer skins ? can you lok down inside the rear cab corners and see the ground pretty well and easily? could be a great truck with a little elbow grease ! |

Hey, that truck is worth fixing up. I am from Calgary as well. Looking at your seat, I have the original 67 bench, out of my truck , sitting in my garage. It is tan vinyl, but is cracked up, but is in better condition than that one. If you are interested in it, you can have it for free. It currently has a black and silver "westerner" tweed seat cover on it that was brand new this spring. If you want the cover, I will leave it on for $40 bucks.
Email me if you are interested. I am home this weekend.

Thanks for the support, guys!
Fast - The rockers/bottom door skins have some pretty decent size holes in 'em as well. The rear cab corners are bondo-ed up, so it's hard to tell exactly how much damage there is. There're also a few smallish holes in the bed (which I'm not too concerned about) and some pretty big holes in the fender wells (the step on the passenger side isn't actually connected to the fender at all anymore). As for the floor panel, I think the whole thing's pretty much had it - I manage to pull a new chunk of rust off every day (I know, I know... it's like picking a scab, I just can't leave it alone.) I'm planning to order a set of replacement panels and weld them in, as soon as I've got a little more cash kicking around. Speaking of which - anybody used replacement panels from Scott's Super Trucks? This looks like the best place for me to get supplies from, since it's only an hour or so away, and I hate waiting for things to come in the mail. Mountain Man - I'd *love* to get my hands on your seat (uh-oh... that didn't sound quite the way I thought it would). I'll drop ya an e-mail. As for long term plans, right now I'm just looking to get all the body damage repaired, put on some decent paint, and stop that infernal oil leak. Planning on doing the whole truck black, then having a friend airbrush some flames & skulls & such on it. Thanks again, everyone - I've already learned a lot from this board. Dan |

Oh, yeah...
You're right, Buck... You win the rust game.
I like the "beer can in the rust-hole" trick. Maybe I can get people to start doing that instead of just chucking their empties in the bed... Dan |

That would be really sweet done up in the original red! Black will look sharp too.
