front suspension

hey, i was putting in my new shorter springs and noticed my control arm on the lower a-frame was loose. new ones are like 70 bucks for 2, moog ones are about 100 for 2. thats a lot. is there anything i should do? like i mean can i tighten them somehow, like with the 2 end nuts. it doesnt look liek that would do much butt? thanks, ben

you have two options

1 replace the cross shafts.
2 convert to '73-'87 lower control arms and install urethane bushings.
They are a metal on grease on metal component.
If you replace the cross shafts be sure to grease them often and they will last a long time.

He's right. That's the bad part about working on something like that...you always find something else that has to be done. If you don't do it right the first time, you'll be sorry, and some of your work will have to be repeated. You don't want that, do you? NAPA stuff is good. That's what is under my front end. Upper and lower shafts and bushings, as well as ball joints, all got put in with the new lowered spindles and disc brake conversion. If you want it to drive right, you'll have to fix it right.

ok, well, i gathered up all the change i could find and bought the moog front control shafts and lower ball joints. the top i have to leave for now. it all looks good up there, and i dont have money anyway, so i guess ill put it together with my new stuff and see whats up. thanks, Ben
