Wire harness for a custom? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I was just wondering who makes a wire harness that would suit my truck. When it is done, it will have:
- An aftermarket in-dash CD stereo
- Six Autometer electric streetrod gauges (none mechanical)
- Aftermarket Bright/Dim indicator and signal indicator lights
- Vintage Air heat/cool unit
- HEI
- Edelbrock carb with electric choke

My stock harness is shot, so I have to replace it regardless of what modifications I do to the truck, but I figure I might as well do it right the first time and get a harness that best suits my needs. I've heard lots of people talk about Painless harnesses in the past. Are they a good one and would they work with all the modifications I will be making? Is there anyone else who makes a harness that would better suit my needs, or am I best off just to build my own (not a fun job I'm sure). Thanks!

you won't find a harness with those features. you should just get a 67-72 18 circuit harness with new style fuses. you will be splicing wires no matter what harness you buy.

BTW, talk to Randy70C-10 he has done 2 or 3 installs of the painless kit.

I'm in the middle of my first painless install and I have to say it's been the best money spent so far,it's really top notch and everything is marked.JMO

#10206,it's the one with the correct ends on it and 18 circut fuse panel

I used the painless kit for trucks on my blazer and it was a pain imo. I had to cut the fire wall hole bigger and there are wires included that you do not need. Also you need to fill holes in the fire wall cause they are not used(taillight section) the rear taillight harness is not included,the wires are there but no sockets for the lights. Also there is no column harness included.. Just seems like it could have been more complete.. Then agian maybe I bought the wrong one I will have to look at the painless kit # next time I am outside..

For the money you probably had to pay for that "Painfull" wiring kit, I would think you should have gotten a complete kit.

So, for all my custom stuff I am doing to my truck, would painless kit # 10206 be the answer to my problems? Does it have all the bulb sockets and stuff on it, because I have a few of those burned out as well. Also, since I am running electric gauges, will it have provisions for all the separate lights and such, or am I still going to have to fabricate somewhat of a dash harness? Thanks!
