1981 stepside lowering

Has anyone out there tried to take the front rear leaf spring hanger and remove the factory rivets and in vert them to lower the erar of the truck? Why buy a hanger to lower the front when you can roll the fronts up after the rivets have been removed drill new holes and the make your own rear leaf spring shackles longer? I know I can do it and lower the rear of the truck I was just wondering if it had been done?
Thanks and please send me some info. I have gave my son my Shaved lowered airbagged swb fleetside 69 pickup with custom interior and now I am starting over.
