Question powersteering

my 69 has powersteering,but the pump is bad so im in the process of replacing it....my question is,when i took off the old pump it had wore down part of the alt belt from behind....was it not mounted right or whats the deal?...it didnt look like it had been shimmed or anything.....anybody else have this problem?

I have seen this on my 69 with ps & a/c. If memory serves me right (50/50 chance) the nut on that holds the ps pump pulley on rubs the alt belt. I fixed it by shimming the alt bracket forward about 3/8" with flat washers. also, belt size on the ps made a difference. It still is a close fit requiring triar and error. Good luck.
