Take the manifold with you to the parts store---if its anything like the store I go to, the people that put the parts away never get them in the right drawer. It's always messed up.

the actual answer to your thread pitch is a hydraulic thread called an o-ring fitting. It's been a while but I think the aeroquip plug # is 2660-5 or 2662-5 , it's a #5 thread. It's close to the 5/16 flare and 3/8 npt but its not the same hence tight threads. you'll have to go to a hydraulic shop to get these.

I just use brass NPT pipe plugs. I screw them in as tight as any sane person would and go on with life. Yes, the threads are slightly different, but they don't leak and it's not like I'm ever going to remove them and reinstall the smog tubes.
I don't torque anything tight enough to actually break the casting though.
