need the right answer???
i just installed a 3.73 gov lock limited slip rearend behind a 160 h.p. 305 in my 83' gmc. I haven't test drove the truck yet. my question is does the gov lock rearend need the lim. slip additive?????? I have heard many say no and some say yes. thanks. Nice board by the way.

I believe I just used regular gear lube in mine.

No, but adding the TransX additive sold for limited slip diffs wont hurt it and its supposed to be a good lubricant for manual transmissions and peg leg diffs. I say spend the 3 bucks extra.

i agree it cant hurt but not nesecery i hav decide myself that synthetics are the way to go and anything more desind for your application IMO should be used

thanks i already bought the trans-x i put it in with fresh lube,, no drawbacks as of yet.

I run additive in all of my rear diffs, and standard transmissions.
Also run a special additive in my automatic transmissions.

Yes, you need the additive.
The gov-lok works on friction and if you leave out the friction modifier for very long it will damage the clutch packs and you will not get correct operation. I believe the manual calls for 2 bottles of additive, can't remember for sure.
