underdash lights

Does this interest anyone?
Is this a factory option and where do they mount?

Re: underdash lights

They must have been part of the CST package on my 72. They are door switch activated and mount on each side of the dash lip.

Re: underdash lights

Over the years I've seen them in a lot of GM cars too. They were common in Impala's and Caprice's I know. Really common in Buicks ,Olds', Pontiac's, and especially Caddy's. I've only seen them in a few 71-72 trucks. They are definetely handy in anything. You can still buy'em brand new for $30.95 from Ron Francis Wire Works.

Re: underdash lights

LMC catalog lists a complete set with the door switches for $50. They sell just the switches for $3.95 each. I'm sure just about every vendor on the board can get them too.

Re: underdash lights

U-pull-it lots are fulla them, Olds, Cads, even base 73-87 Chev/GMC trucks had one in center underdash if no dome light. Gave $5 for the last handful I bought. Great for finding stuff you drop at night. Brian

Re: underdash lights

from what i have seen these lights are for double walled blazers as they don`t have the interior lights on the roof of the blazer like the single walls.
my latest blazer even has them..

You are probably right. My 71 2wd has them and is a double wall top. It may have been a custom, but I don't know since the glove box sticker was painted over.

Re: underdash lights

My 69 Blazer didn't even come with a back seat, but it had these. I think the double wall top idea might be the reason. Jeff.

What is used for internal (cab) lighting on the 70 without? If anything?

Re: underdash lights

Flashlight-- My 71 that I have had for 27 years had them so I assumed they all had them. Then I bought my 70 2 yrs ago and with no inside light its a pain. I bought a set of those lights right away. Started fixing the body so I haven't installed yet
