converting to disk brakes

I want to convert my front drums to disk brakes and i was looking at EC and CPP. I noticed that this is not that cheap of a job to be done. I was wondering if i could just go to a yard and pull a brake booster and master cylinder off of another GM truck, as well as the calipers, rotors, lines, and such. I plan on buying new 2.5" drop spindles so i wont look for those. Anyone have any suggestions for doing this another way than to buy new products? I was also wondering if my rear drums could be replaces also or if not could i use the new booster to power the rear drums? Thanks for the help.

it could work, but i think you would need the other componenets such as the dust shields, and the other odds and ends.

Go to the junk yard and find an 73-87 Gm/Chevy 1/2 ton and unbolt the whole fron crossmember with all the suspension pieces attached. Grab the brake booster/ master cylinder and proportioning valve. Take it home and unblot all the same from your truck and bolt on all the newer stuff. You will have to drill 2 holes for the cross member but everything else should just bolt up! Good Luck!

Be aware that there are two different brake sizes on the 73-87's. The standard size is 1" and the HD size is 1 1/4". I point this out because it will matter when you buy parts. Especially if you are going with drop spindles....

Not to mention that the booster and m/c may require some work to mount and connect to the brake pedal. I plan on using the crossmember out from under a 76 and a booster, m/c and prop va;ve frp, a 72. Check out the FAQ index, there're a bunch of threads on this topic.
