questions about removing burb body..bisquick65 maybe you can answer?

I am looking at purchasing an 88 burb body to replace the one on my 89 burb. My 89 is a 4wd and the 88 is a 2wd.

So my questions are....

Is there any major differences in the 2wd and 4wd? (aside from the hole in the floor for the shifter)

Also what needs to be removed from the body in order to lift it off?

I know the steering column, a/c, body mounts, and electrical harness. Is there anything else I need to be aware of?

All the brake lines, and fuel lines stay with the frame. Correct?

I was thinking about trying this in a weekend. Or am I nuts?

Any input will help...I've taken regular cabs off before..but this is the first time with something this big!

I'm hoping my work will let me do it here and I can use the overhead crane!!

its more than a weekend job to do the swap. unless you have the overhaulin team helping you.
its alot like a cab just twice the mounts and maybe rear ac if u have it. plus its heavy with every thing in it (seats doors and dash). all the lines except the brake cables and wiring are on the frame

Yeah, I know it's going to be at least two weekends...I'm hoping I can at least get it switched in two weekends and then take a couple of more to get all the small details taken care of.

My work said I can do it at the shop, so I will have use of either an over-head crane or a fork lift..to lift the body off. My plan is to take the replacement body off in one weekend and then take the other body off, and place the new one on the frame the next weekend.

I won the auction for the 88 Burb...$160 (minus motor and tranny)...but was told the body is in good shape. So I didn't think it was a bad deal.

I was hoping somebody that has already done this type of swap would chime in with some details. I just wanted to know of all the little things to be aware of ahead of time.....

10 bolts after the front clip is off...is all that holds the body tub on...I used a lift to raise the tub off the 2wd frame ,then on the 4x4 frame...Now you can do this in the driveway if you get 6 jack stands under the body with the frame off the ground,remove the rear axle off the frame,then take the bolts off the body and jack the frame down(body staying on the stands...then drag the frame out the front of the body...Do you picture this? Slide the frame out on the leaf springs... And you will need a hole for the case shifter...everything is a bolt on , And 3-5 more helper's never hurt...this is a good probally week job...Hope this helps..Erick ..Watch that hurricane!!!
