I just bought a hypertech programmer cheap for my gmc with a 4.8. If i buy a 160 degree thermostat and program it for it what can I expect, or whould I just leave the stock thermostat in.

If you put the 160 stat in,this will trick the ecm into letting a little more fuel in,with the chip it will make a difference. It will give you better milage too because the engine wont work as hard ...Hope this helps,Erick
I had a 91 camaro that i did this too and found out 85 mph on the interstate,it would get 38 miles to the gallon,we left daytona beach, filled up there, made it to the north/south carolina border on 1 tank..19 gallons.in a 305 tuned post with a 5 speed...Too bad the car got wrecked It was a good one...And one more thing,if you can move the air intake sensor away from the engine heat ,that helps too, 93 s-10 blazer 4.3 vortec gained up 4 miles gep gallon by that little move.. Thanks for the help. I will pick up a thermostat today. Any Idea where the air intake sensor is?

It is located in one of the air tubes going in the tbi. Just pull it out,run an extendion wire and put it like on the fender ,away from engine heat...It will make a difference.

Re: 160 degree thermostat
Why would you want to basically disable the IAT sensor? I don't know much about TBI but this is a somewhat important component of a fuel injection system...I don't think making the ECU think the air temp is cooler is going to give you any benefit. What you want to do is actually make the air temp cooler.
