Pulling Steering Wheel
Tonight I have to pull the steering wheel on a 72 Custom Camper to track down a turn signal switch problem. It will be the first time I have had to pull the wheel and I was wondering if anyone has any advice before I start.
Thanks. |

Quite a few years ago when I was much younger and a little in a hurry,(or dummer) A friend was parting out a VEGA WAGON, the steering wheels on them I think are kind of neat. My friend told me I could have it but he didn't have a "puller" so dip sh** ME I take the nut OFF (note I said OFF not LOOSE) and I proceeded to yank like crazy, well it came off and hit me right in the face.hehehe doggone near knocked me out. Truth of the matter is it should have for me being so DUM.. MORAL OF THE STORY !! USE A PULLER!!!!!!!!!! Or at least leave the nut loose but on....

I agree, gotta use a puller. you can get a cheap one for i think around 10 bucks.
And for the turn signal problem, if it's the same promblem I had (won't shut off when you return the steering wheel) you probably don't need a new cancelling cam. I bought a new cam which turned out to be the wrong one but noticed something competely missing from mine ,,,,, springs !!!!! I just took the springs off the new one and put on mine. you can get the new springs for a buck or two. should look something like this,

Maybe that's why nose is so big.. I've used that intelligence before too Ron.. ...I'll admit too that being as smart(? ?) as I was...I did it again. ...I can only remember twice though....So maybe The first hit wasn't hard enough to break through my skull.
Thank you Lord for the wheel puller invention!!

I was laughing do hard I couldn't say that I didn't want the blood soaked wheel. |

Woodgeard,
Not sure if the 'WOOD' thing in the name has anything to do with it or not. Most likly it was an age (stupid teenager) thing. Made me dizzy at the time, had nothing to do with the green stuff being smoked! Damn my head is starting to hurt...... |

pullers are best, but in a pinch, lossen the bolt untill its even with the end of the bold. get a piece of wood or a plastic hammer and smack it. the nut will keep your threads from getting buggerd up. usualy takes 2 smacks then comes right off.

This is still the best puller, fits in your tool box, never fails...
