1986 suburban auto hub questions please help
I have the factory auto hubs on my burb and just purchased a set of warn manual hubs for it and I cant get them installed. They fit but the snap ring wont go into place is there something Im doing wrong ? Is there a kit for installing them? The hubs werent new but came of exact same front end. ALso anybody have one auto hub thats good out there that they wnat to part with???? please Pm me thanks

you should be able to put the large diameter snap ring in, but on some of the mid 80s trucks the smaller ring that goes on the axle shaft itself would not fit because the ring groove was not on the outerpart of the shaft (about 1/4- 3/8" off). It can be left off as long as the larger wire ring is in place to hold the locking hub into the wheel hub.

Did you try prying at the u-joint yokes to force the axle stub outward to help get the snal ring in?It can be tough sometimes.

some mid 80s had a snap ring on the axle with a washer behind it that can be left out

Try what Special-K said. I had to do that for my 86 Blazer and it worked just fine.

smokin 85 is right, my 85 K5 had a washer also that need to be removed when I removed auto hubs and went manual.

I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm |
