need help identifying wheels
I need help identifying what these wheels originally came on, whether or not the hubcaps are original and what correct hubcaps should look like.[IMG][/IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

Re: need help identifying wheels
What vehicle are they on?How many lugs? These are OEM-type optional wheels and aftermarket as well from the same companies that provided them to the factories. The hub cap looks like a painted baby moon-type of cap.

Re: need help identifying wheels
They are currently on a 1971 gmc jimmy and are six lug. The hubcaps are chevrolet and are about eight inches in diameter. The hole for the manual hub looks to have been cut and not original. The wheels have black paint (maybe primer) under the white and the hubcaps seem to be originally chrome. Here is a picture without the hubcap.[IMG][/IMG]

Re: need help identifying wheels
The widest wheel offered in '67 and '68 was 8.25" x 16.5" but only for the 3/4t. and 1 t. trucks. They came with the hubcap clips just like that. My '68 GM restoration guide says the widest wheel for the the K10 was 6.0 inches in the 16.5 inch diameter. This was called the "Wide Base Tubeless Tire". Those must have been an after market wheel. No clue about the hubcaps...sort of unique though. 16.5-inch tires are still made by three tire companies so no problem getting tires. They cost about the same as a comparable 16-inch tire.

Re: need help identifying wheels
My '68 1/2 ton originally came with 17.5 x 5.25 rims and 7.00x17.5 6-ply tires. When I finally wore them out from a lot of curb hopping and rough rock play, I found they were rare and I couldn't get 'em anymore. Someone said the odd size was common on fleet vehicles so employees wouldn't be as tempted to steal them.(?) When I got a set of Yokohama radials, they felt really good. Currently, I went to 16" white spokes and got the oversize diameter by getting a taller tire. 235/85R16LT Dunlaps is what I'm running now.
Among my old 17.5 rims, I had acquired an oddball Firestone wheel as a spare. The Firestone rim has a script "F" inside a shield stamped on it as a makers' mark. It was more domed -- like the one in the jpeg-- than the GM rims.

Re: need help identifying wheels
By the time Blazers came out, these were a factory option. But,they had the nub-type hubcaps.Kelsey/Hayes made these and Firestone and Sears sold them,as well as truck equipment and RV suppliers.
