Axle Years?
Just curious as to what the running years of the 12 and 14 bolt rearends came in. I'm assuming that the 14 bolt is the 3/4 ton version and the 12 bolt as the 1/2 ton version. But if I were to start looking for a set of axles what years would have what?

Re: Axle Years?
Not too sure on the 12 bolt, but I think 64 up to 77 or so. 14 bolt Full Floater came out in 73 when the that body style was introduced in both 3/4 and 1 ton. In '81 the Semi Floater was in light duty 3/4 tons. The heavy 3/4 and 1 tons used the full floater. I think they are still used in the new trucks, but not sure, I can't afford one, so I don't look!!

Re: Axle Years?
As was said. In addition, the 10 bolt replaced the 12 bolt in the 1/2 tons, and in some regards is stronger than the 12 bolt truck version, something to do with pinion size. The newer "14 bolts" also come in a 11.5" ring gear size i believe. Also on the 14 bolts some time in the 80s things changed and parts are not interchangeable (spindles/drums).

Re: Axle Years?
12 bolts were used up to 1981, thereafter it was 10 bolts for 1/2 tons. 14 bolt semi-float came in 1981....full float 14s in 1973. They are still using both 14 bolts to this day.

Re: Axle Years?
Two different 14 bolts. 10.5 or 9.5 ring gear size. Completely different. I just ran into this when ordering a locker for my 87 K30 which is the 10.5"

Re: Axle Years?
So If I wanted to swap in a 14 bolt rearend for the ho52 in my 71 I should use 10.5 or the 9.5 ring gear? I'm assuming that the 10.5 would be better suited for my 3/4 ton truck right?

Re: Axle Years?
Yep the 9.5" is more of a light duty 3/4 ton. The 10.5" is what the h052/h072 evolved into in 1973. Also look for a 1 ton 14b as they have their spring perch spacing right on for our trucks (40" to 40.5") the 3/4 tons are like 42" apart and will need to be moved. Also the 10.5" is a full floater the 9.5" is like the 10 and 12 bolts, and uses c-clips. Also detroit lockers for a 10.5' 14b are around $350, the 9.5" is like $650 and requires more work to install.

Sorry blazingmiracle. You must be a subscriber to the board to post wanted parts or for sale items and they must be done on the for sale forums.

Re: Axle Years?
Or you can get an 01'+ 11.5" 14bolt {AAM 11.5} They have factory disc's.I'd just keep the h052 though.Locker selection for AAM's isn't yet though .
