Better brakes for my 58 panel...
I have a 58 panel that i paid way to much for and want to make it road worthy. It runs and steers well but the brakes................
What can i do to get it to stop straight and fairly well? The first thing I know is to install a dual M/C and replumb the brake lines. who, where can i get modern high performance brake shoes, spring kits, M/C and mounting bracket, and proportioning valve? M/C Bracket used? what used proportioning valve I want to keep my aftermarket wheels so i was going to stick to the drums Unless anybody has a cheap way to do a disc brake swap keeping the wheels and using roller wheel bearings. Thanks, Steve |

Re: Better brakes for my 58 panel...
IMO, if you REALLY want to stop better and make the truck safer but still keep the straight front axle, you should seriously consider the disc brake conversion kit offered by Master Power Brakes. I have had a few friends do the conversion and they say the difference is like night and day. The basic bracket kit which I THINK is around $200 includes calliper adapters and new bearings and bearing races along with recommendations on what rotors, callipers, MC and hoses to use. The complete kit includes everything you need but is about $400 for the whole upgrade.
