Why do my trucks always end up like this ???

This is the second one in 18 months this has happened to. They start out as complete trucks and parts just start coming off. Don't know why that happens. I think my sons my be involved in this somehow. Does any one else have this problem ? Is there a cure ???

Re: Why do my trucks always end up like this ???

Started for me when I was a kid, taking toys apart, TRYING to get them back together... They always come apart fast, but everytime I get ready to bolt something back on, I see something and think "I gotta fix that while I'm at it". Knowing when to say when is tough...

Don't feel bad, my jimmy is in pieces and some of it has been cut out, slow going for sure...

Good luck, Rg

Thats sounds exactly like me, had to take it apart to see how it works - LOL
We said we wern't going to get as extensive on this one as the 68, but once you start taking it apart, well you know how it goes....... I can say though that have gone through one complete teardown/rebuild that this one s going alot faster, atleast the coming apart phase. You know where every bolt is and what wrench it takes, the assembly order etc. It would be such a waste of good experience to do only one truck - LOL, could there be a third truck in my future ??? Hmmm.

Sorry about the bad pics. I should post some pics of the one I got done here some time, been kinda busy..... Cab's going to come off tommorow so we can cleanup the frame. Gonna try the eastwood rust encapsulator on this one, hope it works.

Re: Why do my trucks always end up like this ???

Sounds like you got a plan. Every wrench? Heck, all you need is a 1/2" and a 9/16", most of it will come apart!

Oh, I just closed the deal on another project truck, you're the first to know... I'll post pics once it is in my sweaty hands...

Re: Why do my trucks always end up like this ???

Well, the rear cab mounts take a 5/8, the front needs 13/16 on top and 7/8 below, and a 3/8 for trim and some little stuff, bumper takes a 3/4, and a hammer and a hot wrench for the ones that don't cooperate - LOL. Thank goodness NO METRIC. Just trying to be funny, your're exactly correct, a 1/2 and 9/16 gets 95%.

Don`t worry,I`ve heard you can put them back together. They say this only occurs every 20 or more years.Once reassembled, keep an eye on it and it shouldn`t happen again.

THE ONLY CURE IS MORE PARTS! MAYBE YOU SHOULD START DOING RESTORATION ON THE SIDE FOR MONEY. THEN YOU GET PAID TO BUY MORE PARTS/TRUCKS!! lol

Re: Why do my trucks always end up like this ???

Well, I just think it is plain fun. But getting the money to put back together is where I run into problems. Have not done this for some time now. I do not think I will be taking anymore apart to do a ground up. The last one I gave to my Son-in-Law before I put back together. He is going to finish the '70swb with my Grandson. But the Grandson is only 13 so might be a few years.

Re: Why do my trucks always end up like this ???

My wife tells me all the time that Ihave too many projects going on, especially when I see something else I want. She says You're not getting another project to work on, you haven't finished the ones you got!" But the way I see it is I'll work on one till I get bored with it or have to wait for something, then I go work on one of the others. That way I can stay busy. I currently am working on replacing floor pans in her 79 camaro, finished building her 86 IROC Z back in the summer to be painted in the spring, working on my 69 GMC (a never ending and constantly changing project), and replacing the transmission in my work van, gatting an 86 cutlass fixed so I can say bye bye to it. I just can't decide which to work on today!

Re: Why do my trucks always end up like this ???

is there anyone here that doesn't suffer from this disease? I am trying to keep the downtime on my truck to a minimum, just basic upkeep, and things that will keep me to less than a weekend of work at the moment........this of course is because I currently have a 69 camaro in need of a full restoration, a fiat I am parting out (came with the house), an olds cutlass to keep on the road, my girlfriends taurus SHO (its a ford, but its a stick shift), and the truck.....hey, its only time and money, what else would I do with it?
