Im scared...i think i broke it
I just finished installing my new carb and manifold set-up, got it all done, ready to go and, now it wont start, and of course its sitting in my driveway and i dont know what to do...
when i first turned it over it almost started, for about two seconds, then it died and now there is no sign of life, just cranks over for a long time and does nothing...i dont have any frickin' diagnostic tools either...so fack, who knows eh?

Got spark?
Got gas? It should do "something". Maybe (don't know what I'm talking about) the timing and the distributor is screwed up. |

If the timing is way off, it wouldn't have "almost starte" at first.
Check the wires to your coil. |

Maybe try a little starting fluid sprayed over the carb.
It might not start but will help to eliminte other issues

What little I know -
Pump the gas and see if it's squirting in the carb. Pull a plug wire and ground it someplace to see if you have spark. Dist. could be 180 off. - been there, done that. Or (if it's a Holley carb) the power valve could be shot. They won't start. Found that out once when it was 20+ degrees below zero. |

i rotated the ditributor 180degrees since when i checked it, the mark that i made was 180 off! (dumb ass move), but that didnt help, but i noticed that on my old carb when you move the throttle you can hear air coming out of the jets, but not on the new one...possibly defective?...the fuel is getting to the carb, but not spraying out i think...cuz i unhooked the lines and gas spilled everywhere (including on my keyboard now ), and they were new lines too, so must mean gas is getting there...aaAAHHH!
i knew i shouldnt have bought a remanufactured carb....stupid stupid stupid

just a thought but check your oil and make sure there is no water in it. if the intake gasket didn't seal then you could be getting water where your trying to get fire.

dont freak..its probably something easy.. I would pour a little gas down the carb...just a little... and try starting..if it fires, then its your carb..its could be a stuck float or some crap plugging up the jets...tap on the float bowls(easily) I will sometime unscrew the idle adjustment screws and shoot some carb cleaner in the holes..just try to eliminate one thing at a time. If you have spark..and fuel.. it should run( timing could be a prob.) just check the easy stuff first

if you think it's flooded bad, pull the plugs, spin it a few times, put the plugs back in and try it.......if still nothing, and you have no gas squirting from the accelerator pump, fill the float bowl through the vent, then try the acc. pump.....that should at least tell you if your pump is working.

Bah! The funniest thing is dumping a bunch of gas down the carb and then firing up the engine! Nothing like flames shooting up outta the carb! Word of warning though, keep all clothes and hair out of the way!!!!! hahaha! Think your carb's a *****, take a look at mine. It looks like there's a friggin brake rotor on top of the opening of the carb. Has something to do with the CNG system installed. I don't have the first clue about working on CNG systems, so hopefully I don't have any problems in the near future!

If you have gas in the oil you might have a bad fuel pump. Look at your oil closely to see if it is thin or runny looking. If you have spark and gas it should fire, unless your plugs are soaked in oil or gas. Good luck

You need to change the oil if you have gas in it. Easy way to spin a bearing.
