Wanted - steering gear brace for 4X4
This is for project "Muscle Truck"... I need the factory brace that GM made to reinforce the frame at the steering gear. Email, pm, or call me toll free at 888-338-2502 with what you have... I need one so I can install it before my frame goes in for powder coating. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Re: Wanted - steering gear brace for 4X4
YEAH a pic would be great. I did not realize the first gens needed that. Only heard of it being a problem with '73 up. I think I just recently saw what you needed on ebay, and don't think it sold for too much either. Again, I didn't realize this is a prob for first gens so I didn't bid on it.

Re: Wanted - steering gear brace for 4X4
Yes, thanks WES for posting that pic. Just like the one I saw on ebay awhile back, to bad I didn't know I needed it.
How serious a problem is it for the first gens? Again, I've only heard this is an issue for the later Blazers. Do you need it only because your building a "muscle truck"?

Re: Wanted - steering gear brace for 4X4
No, Actualy I don't need it for the engine size, my frame isn't even cracked. Although cracking is an issue with these trucks, that is why GM came out with the brace. I am powder coating this chassis and will be running larger than stock tires, so I am adding it as a little precausion. I do not want to have to mess with it anytime soon, so a little added insurance couldn't hurt at this point in the game. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Re: Wanted - steering gear brace for 4X4
can anyone explain why or how G.M. decided which 4x4s got the brace and which didn't. i've seen them only on 70-72 trucks but mostly blazers, i've seen trucks built at the fremont plant that did have them and trucks of the same year built at fremont that didn't have them so it's not a region specific thing. just curious if someone might have a logical answer. neither of my trucks have them originally but will have them when i'm done.

Re: Wanted - steering gear brace for 4X4
I`ve never seen a cracked frame on any 67-72 4wd.I wouldn`t say it was a problem.
Do these weld on?I ask because since it is a seperate piece, shouldn`t it be Powdercoated seperately?

Re: Wanted - steering gear brace for 4X4
I have only seen them on Blazers myself, but have bolted and welded them to truck frames that were cracked also. The are both welded and bolted, or welded and rivetted so it can't be powder coated seperately. I will probably be running larger tires, so an ounce of prevention now is better than a pound of cure later..lol WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
